Children in every step: discover the impact of Save the Children in Peru

  • In a unique event that breaks away from adult-centered formats, Save the Children in Peru presented its 2022–2024 Impact Report – a document that reflects what we can achieve when we put children first.

A boy smiles again. A girl returns to school. A community regains hope. Behind every story, there is a collective effort that has transformed lives.

During the 2022–2024 strategic cycle, Save the Children in Peru positively impacted more than 305,980 people, either by addressing their humanitarian needs or involving them in development processes. To share these results, the organization held an innovative, participatory, and deeply human event titled Children in Every Step – a walk-through experience designed to immerse participants in the journey.

Amid the ongoing challenges of the pandemic aftermath, forced migration, and the climate crisis, Save the Children worked with a territorial approach, strategic partnerships, and the firm belief that children must always be at the center. This approach has led to results that inspire.

  • 35,000 families received direct support to sustain their livelihoods and prevent hunger
  • Over 7,000 people from highly vulnerable communities strengthened their capacity to respond to emergencies
  • 2,798 teachers received technical assistance to reinforce inclusive and safe education approaches
  • More than 6,300 people, including children, caregivers, and families, accessed mental health and psychosocial support services
  • Nearly 900 children were supported through child protection case management
  • 23 consultations were held with children and adolescents to involve them in decisions and public policies that affect their lives

A path to remember

The event brought together children, adolescents, local partners, donors, representatives from public institutions, and Save the Children staff. It represented a new kind of accountability – one designed to include children, break away from adult-centered approaches, and share results in a playful, participatory, and meaningful way.

The launch of the Impact Report was not a traditional ceremony. It was a journey – one to be felt, walked through, and shared. Through interactive stations, games, testimonies, and visual spaces, participants explored the milestones of the period and reaffirmed their role as agents of change.

“This was not just about showing numbers – it was about walking a shared path, recognizing what we have built together, and continuing with purpose,” said William Campbell, Country Director of Save the Children in Peru.

Each station was a step along the way. Through games, images, reflections, and shared memories, we relived the challenges and celebrated the achievements of the past three years. The experience reminded us not just where we have been, but why – and for whom – we continue moving forward: children.

“I was moved not only by the achievements of Save the Children in Peru, but also by the creative way in which they were presented,” said Cristina García, Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean. Cristina attended the event, visited each station, and engaged closely with participants.

Members of the Children and Adolescents Advisory Group (GANNAP) also took an active role, sharing their perspectives on the challenges children face in the country and the urgency of building safe and just environments.

Elka Baledon of DAS Perú and Lourdes Febres of Acción por los Niños, representing local partners, praised Save the Children’s territorial and rights-based approach.

“We congratulate Save the Children for this report, which not only shares data or indicators, but highlights the lives of children, families, and communities that have been transformed thanks to the dedicated work of the teams on the ground,” said Elka Baledon, Executive Director of DAS Perú.

With this Impact Report, Save the Children reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that children are protected, heard, and empowered – and to building a future where every person can grow up in safe, resilient, and inclusive environments.
